CSQ’s National Coming Out Day: #ChurchOut Sunday

In honor of the 30th anniversary of National Coming Out Day, City Square Church is excited to host a #ChurchOut celebration Sunday, October 7, at 10am. #ChurchOut is an opportunity to foster compassion and understanding of the journey of our LGBTQ sisters and brothers living openly in a religious community.

#ChurchOut Sunday will feature four tellers who’ll share stories about coming out as a teenager, a minister, a couple and the yet-unfolding journey of learning to trust people of faith.

Our primary goal for this event is to facilitate reconciliation between the LGBTQ community and the church by:
1. Listening to stories by our LGBTQ friends
2. Repenting as a church for our callous response to the LGBTQ community
3. Committing to support other faith communities that provide safe and affirming space for LGBTQ individuals

(NOTE: This is the first of a two-part celebration. The citywide #ChurchOut event is scheduled for 6pm, Thursday, Oct. 11, at Boycott Bar – https://www.facebook.com/events/242134943174508/.)

Speaking Out: Women’s Shared Stories of Assault and Harassment

As countless women are coming forward with their stories of sexual harassment or assault, we want to provide space for them to put words to those experiences, be listened to, and be believed. Please join us in this private event, a safe space of men and women who are there as an audience to be present to your reality.

If you identify as a woman and want to tell your story:
During this open-mic format event, any woman can share her experience. Each will have five (5) minutes to speak, to allow time for all who wish to participate.

If you are ready to share your story but don’t want to speak publicly (or wish to keep your story anonymous), please email the text to [email protected].com and it will be read at the event for you.
