Coming out as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer or allied takes bravery, and it takes even more bravery when coming out in the religious community! In partnership with the Human Rights Campaign, we’re hosting #ChurchOut, a citywide open expression celebration for the 30th anniversary of National Coming Out Day, 6:30pm, Thursday, October 11, at Boycott Bar!
Calling all LGBTQ and ally musicians, dancers, poets, storytellers, comedians, and any other artists interested in sharing at the celebration. Get there early to sign up on the performers’ list.
FREE ADMISSION (but the drinks will cost you!)
In honor of the 30th anniversary of National Coming Out Day, City Square Church is excited to host a #ChurchOut celebration Sunday, October 7, at 10am. #ChurchOut is an opportunity to foster compassion and understanding of the journey of our LGBTQ sisters and brothers living openly in a religious community.
#ChurchOut Sunday will feature four tellers who’ll share stories about coming out as a teenager, a minister, a couple and the yet-unfolding journey of learning to trust people of faith.
Our primary goal for this event is to facilitate reconciliation between the LGBTQ community and the church by:
1. Listening to stories by our LGBTQ friends
2. Repenting as a church for our callous response to the LGBTQ community
3. Committing to support other faith communities that provide safe and affirming space for LGBTQ individuals
(NOTE: This is the first of a two-part celebration. The citywide #ChurchOut event is scheduled for 6pm, Thursday, Oct. 11, at Boycott Bar – https://www.facebook.com/events/242134943174508/.)
October is National Coming Out month. So what does coming out look like in Phoenix today? Ashton and Janine Skinner will lead an interactive exercise highlighting the experiences of so many of our neighbors, coworkers, and church members. Come hear, reflect, and share your thoughts about how we as a community might be called to respond!
VIA CRUCIS-Phoenix is an art and contemplation walk recreating the 14 stations of the cross using art to creatively reimagine the Passion narrative for a contemporary context. Paintings, sculptures, performance and experiential artists will lead participants on a journey towards expanding their understanding of the Passion narrative.
THIS EVENT IS FREE TO THE PUBLIC.
Join City Square Church Wednesdays during Lent as we bring this global meditation practice to the heart of downtown PHX.
As countless women are coming forward with their stories of sexual harassment or assault, we want to provide space for them to put words to those experiences, be listened to, and be believed. Please join us in this private event, a safe space of men and women who are there as an audience to be present to your reality.
If you identify as a woman and want to tell your story:
During this open-mic format event, any woman can share her experience. Each will have five (5) minutes to speak, to allow time for all who wish to participate.
If you are ready to share your story but don’t want to speak publicly (or wish to keep your story anonymous), please email the text to [email protected]
